Lead 3D/ CG sup

Context:

This case example illustrates what the role is about:

The client has given us this AI concept. You need to deliver a realistic final version of it.
The deadline is 2 weeks, and the budget is healthy.
You are given a team of artists, but you need to decide who does what, when and on which soft.

What’s your plan?

Description:

CoCollective is looking for a Lead 3D/CG sup, to lead on project level.
You will be handed over a client, a scope, a budget in man-days and a core team of 2 to 5 artists.
Over to you to deliver the project as you see fit.

You would be reporting to Camille, Head of CoCollective.
We are a small structure, hence we can tailor the role to your skills.

Things you may want to be responsible for:

  • Lead team of artists, on a tech and/or art level.
  • Get your hands dirty in the files.
  • Take on some production work yourself as a lead artist. Lead by example.
  • Assess production risks.
  • Suggest a few routes to deliver the content, and explain the pros and cons.
  • Source extra freelancers.
  • Client communication (milestone submission, reception of feedback, live presentation).
  • Create internal schedules.
  • Assemble scenes.
  • Quality control.

Ideal profile:

  • You have excellent technical knowledge and have an established record as an all-around generalist.
  • You have talked/dealt with many departments and points of views (artists, producers, CG supervisor, clients, etc).
  • You can see different ways to produce the same scope, and can explain the impact of each option.

Skills:

  • All-round generalist.
  • You have worked on multiple types of industries (ex: animation, commercial, museum, arch viz, feature film, product, etc).
  • Some experience with asset build, FX, comp, rig, anim, comp, grading.
  • CG supervision (see and deploy the fastest, best or cheapest path).
  • Lead a team of artists (briefs, dispatch work, quality control, lead dailies).
  • A clear mind and a concise communicator.
  • Client interaction experience on a project level (submitting and presenting milestones, receiving info).
  • An open mind to do whatever makes sense. You avoid habit/autopilot.
  • Be friendly and fun.
  • No ego. It’s annoying.
  • You serve those you lead.

Engagement:

  • Full remote.
  • GMT +/-4h.
  • This is a freelance position. We are pooling Lead 3D freelancers, and you will be called for projects that match your interests.
  • Ideally, that will lead to a recurring position, slowly getting the established CG lead position at CoCollective.
  • We are a small team, so we try to be an enjoyable place to work.
  • You will work with full remote people from all over Europe.
  • You enjoy having a significant impact on how the project is run, and you won’t be micromanaged. You understand you will be accountable for the output of your decisions.
